The Future of Solar: Perovskite Solar Cells (PSCs)
Revolutionizing solar energy with cheaper, lighter, and more efficient technology.
Solar energy is growing rapidly in Europe, with new technologies making it more efficient and accessible. One of the most exciting advancements is perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs) — a next-generation solar technology that outperforms traditional panels by being:
Affordable
Lightweight
High-performance
PSCs have made huge progress in recent years, with efficiency improving dramatically. They have the potential to revolutionise solar power, but one major challenge remains—scaling up production. While PSCs work well in small lab tests, larger panels used in real-world applications still need improvements to maintain the same level of performance.
Despite this, PSCs are expected to grow even faster than traditional solar panels, playing a key role in the future of clean energy. Scientists and engineers are working hard to overcome scaling challenges, bringing us closer to a world where solar power is more affordable, efficient, and widely available.

Bringing Perovskite Solar to the Real World
At PERSEUS, we are leading the way in scaling up perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology for large-scale production in Europe. While traditional solar panel manufacturing abroad, we see a unique opportunity to establish a strong European industry and supply chain for PSCs. By advancing solution-processed and hybrid-processed PSCs, we can reduce dependency on imports, drive innovation, and strengthen Europe’s renewable energy sector.
Our mission is to build the foundation for PSC production and real-world applications across multiple industries. To achieve this, we have brought together a Consortium to develop three distinct PSC designs, optimized for a variety of uses - from building-integrated solar panels and floating solar farms to urban energy solutions.
With PERSEUS, we are positioning Europe as a leader in next-generation solar energy, ensuring that PSC technology becomes a key driver of clean, efficient, and accessible renewable power. Our work is paving the way for a sustainable future, where solar energy is more affordable, adaptable, and widely available than ever before.
Scaling Up for a Solar Revolution
One of the biggest challenges in perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology is producing them on a large enough scale to compete with traditional solar panels. While Saule Technologies has already developed a high-quality production process, improvements are needed to make PSCs more durable and efficient for long-term use.
At PERSEUS, we are tackling this challenge by making SAU the central hub for PSC development and commercialization. Different solar applications - such as building-integrated panels, floating solar farms, and urban energy solutions - require different levels of performance, lifespan, and cost-effectiveness. To meet these needs, we are developing 3 types of PSC modules:
High-efficiency opaque modules
for maximum solar
power generation
Semi-transparent modules
for windows
and building facades
Advanced tandem modules
for even greater
energy efficiency
These designs will be turned into blueprints for large-scale manufacturing, making it easy to bring PSC technology from the lab to real-world use.
Our goal is to ensure that PSC solar panels become widely available, helping to power homes, cities, and industries with clean and affordable energy.
With PERSEUS, we are taking a major step toward a future where solar energy is more accessible, efficient, and sustainable than ever before.
PERSEUS: Bringing Next-Generation Solar to Life
At PERSEUS, we are working to make perovskite solar cells (PSCs) a real, large-scale energy solution. Our goal is to improve efficiency, durability, and production methods so that PSCs can be used in homes, cities, and industries. Here’s how we’re making it happen:
Developing Advanced PSC Solar Panels
We are designing and testing large, high-performance solar panels that last longer and generate more energy, making them ready for real-world use.
Creating Super-Efficient Tandem Solar Panels
By combining perovskite with other solar technologies, we are developing even more powerful and flexible solar panels that can work in different environments.
Scaling Up Production
We are moving PSC technology from the lab to industrial-scale production, making it possible to produce large numbers of solar panels efficiently.
Making Durable, Real-World Solar Panels
Our panels are designed to withstand tough conditions, whether they are installed on water, farmland, or city buildings.
Testing in Real Environments
We are installing and testing PSC solar panels in different settings, including:
Buildings – Solar panels integrated into rooftops and windows.
Floating Solar Farms – Panels placed on lakes and reservoirs.
Farms – Solar panels working alongside crops.
Urban Spaces – Compact solar panels for city use.
Setting Industry Standards
We are making sure PSC technology meets quality and safety standards so that it can be widely adopted in the solar energy market.
Designing a Large-Scale Production Plan
We are creating a blueprint for a factory that will be able to mass-produce flexible PSC solar panels, helping Europe become a leader in solar manufacturing.
Ensuring Sustainability & Growth
We are studying the economic and environmental impact of PSCs and creating a business plan for future expansion, aiming to grow solar production significantly in the coming years.
With these steps, PERSEUS is making solar energy more adaptable, affordable, and widely available. By bringing PSCs to the market, we are helping Europe lead the way for next-generation PV technologies and build a more sustainable future.
